A 39-year-old man, Ahmed Isa, will spend some time in prison, pending the determination of a case of assault against him.

The remand order was given by a Karu Grade 1 Area Court on Tuesday after the police arraigned the defendant for causing grievous hurt.

The court heard that Mr Isa allegedly beat up a lady after the latter refused his advances for amorous friendship. He got angry by the rejection and attacked the woman, dislocating her left arm in the process.

Olarewaju Osho, the prosecuting counsel, said the complainant was rushed to the hospital.

The matter at the Maitama police station on November 28, the prosecutor said.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 246 of the Penal Code.

Umar Mayana, the judge, ordered that Isa be remanded until December 15 to determine his sentence, after he pleaded guilty to causing grievous hurt.
