Man remanded over alleged possession of 15.6kg cannabis

A Federal High Court, Kaduna Division, on Tuesday ordered the remand of a 35-year-old man, Mohammed Sani, in a correctional centre over alleged possession of 15.6kg of cannabis sativa.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kaduna State Command, arraigned the defendant on a one-count charge of unlawful possession of cannabis, to which he pleaded not guilty.
Justice Amina Shuaibu ordered his remand and adjourned the case until April 30 for trial.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Ocholi David, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on April 5 at the Abakwa area of Kaduna State.
Mr David said that NDLEA operatives received intelligence that the defendant was in possession of a large quantity of cannabis, which he was allegedly selling.
He added that the operatives subsequently apprehended the defendant with 15.6kg of the illicit substance.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 11(b) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation 2004.
