Governor Abba  Yusuf has approved the distribution of permanent and pensionable appointment letters to 1,600 newly recruited watchmen posted to secondary schools across the state.

This was announced in a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, on Wednesday.

Mr Yusuf described the appointment as a major step toward restoring safety, discipline, and stability in public schools.

He explained that a secure environment for students, teachers, and school facilities remained a top priority of his administration, adding that learning cannot thrive where safety is compromised.

The governor explained that the watchmen would play a front‑line role in safeguarding school premises, monitoring unauthorised activities, and supporting the smooth running of academic programmes.

He commended the education ministry and the management of the  Kano State Senior Secondary Schools Management Board for their commitment to executing government directives.

Mr Yusuf urged the newly appointed watchmen to discharge their duties with vigilance, discipline, and integrity.
