Mass defections to APC show Nigerians’ confidence in Tinubu’s govt: Party Chieftain

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Afolabi Momoh, says mass defection of politicians to the party shows that Nigerians have confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s government.
Mr Momoh stated this on Friday in Ikare Akoko, Akoko North-East Local Government Area of the state, while addressing over 100 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who defected to the APC.
He explained that the defection of governors, lawmakers, and other politicians from the opposition to the ruling party was due to the sincerity of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the president.
The APC chieftain said the last two years of the Tinubu-led government had given hope to Nigerians that the country could be revamped and transformed to expectations.
According to him, there is an improvement in the economy, which has boosted the country’s foreign exchange.
Mr Momoh, who hinted at his intention to vie for the Ondo North Senatorial seat in 2027, noted that the purpose was to rescue the district from the current neglect and underdevelopment.
“Here (Ondo North), there is no empowerment, human capital development is zero, and human relations are zero. So, from my pedigree and good deeds with the help of God, I will bring the expected change to our people,” he said.
Earlier, Rasheed Bello, the APC chairman of Ekan Ward in the local government, described Mr Momoh as a tested personality that would perform beyond expectations if given the opportunity to lead.
Also, Ekunnusi Momoh, the pioneer APC chairman in the local government area, said Mr Momoh had a good pedigree with the grassroots movement that could win for the party.
In her remarks, Atinuke Akadiri, an aide to the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, said, “We have been waiting for who will rescue us in Ondo North, and we thank God for this personality that has shown interest.”
“He is a giver and a life transformer. If given the opportunity to lead, we are going to enjoy the dividends of democracy in Ondo North. We have trust in him,” she said.
