First lady Remi Tinubu, on Monday, sent condolences to the family of Najeebat, praying that God will safely bring other children in kidnappers’ den home.

Mrs Tinubu, in a statement on her X page, said, “It is with a heavy heart that I acknowledge the devastating loss of Nabeeha and extend my deepest condolences to her grieving family. 

“May the Almighty God comfort the Al-Kadriyar family for their loss, and may God bring the other children back home safely.”

The first lady urged security agencies to intensify efforts in addressing the pressing matter of kidnappings and insecurity in the nation, while also encouraging citizens to intensify prayers for children and peace in the country.

On January 9, bandits kidnapped Najeebat, her five sisters, and father in Bwari local government council of the Federal Capital Territory. 

The father was released on January 12 to source a N60 million ransom for the girls, while Ms Najeebat was tragically killed on Saturday as her father tried to raise the ransom.

On Monday, Amnesty International lamented the widespread kidnap-for-ransom incidents in Nigeria, stating that kidnapping has become part of daily life, and citizens are living on the edge.

However, Bayo Onanuga, spokesperson for President Bola Tinubu, assured that security agencies are working to tackle the kidnapping menace in the country. 

“Security agencies are trying their best to curb this problem,” said Mr Onanuga.

The IGP, Kayode Egetokun, stated that they are on top of the situation, doing their utmost to address kidnappings across Nigeria.

On Sunday, Peoples Gazette reported how former communications and digital economy minister Isa Pantami revealed that one of his friends donated N50 million to complete the N60 million ransom demanded by kidnappers for the release of Najeebat’s sisters.
