Mexican drug baron El Mencho on U.S. wanted list killed in military onslaught

Mexican drug cartel leader, Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera, declared wanted by the U.S., has been killed in a military operation in Tapalpa, Jalisco in Mexico on Sunday.
The country’s Ministry of National Defense confirmed in a statement on Sunday that El Mencho was killed during an operation.
Mexican Ministry of National Defense said, “during its Sunday operation, military personnel were attacked, and in defense of their integrity they repelled the aggression, resulting in four members of the “CJNG” criminal group being killed at the scene and three seriously wounded, who lost their lives during their transfer by air to Mexico City; among the latter is Ruben “N” (a) Mencho, however, the corresponding authorities will be in charge of the forensic activities for his identification.”
The U.S. had declared El Mencho, who led Jalisco New Generation Cartel, known as CJNG, wanted with the State Department placing $15 million bounty on him.
In February, President Donald Trump administration designated the CJNG cartel as a foreign terrorist organisation.
The U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, Christopher Landau, in a statement on X on Sunday, lauded the killing of El Mencho as a good development for Mexico and the U.S.
“I’ve just been informed that Mexican security forces have killed “El Mencho,” one of the bloodiest and most ruthless drug kingpins. This is a great development for Mexico, the US, Latin America, and the world,” Mr Landau said.
