The Police Command in Delta confirmed the killing of a middle-aged man on Friday in renewed hostilities between Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh communities in the State.

Confirming the death, police spokesman in the state, Bright Edafe, said the killing of the man involved a border clash between the two communities.

Both communities share boundaries and had been embroiled in an age-long land dispute over land.

Ogbe-Ijoh communities, an Ijaw enclave is in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta, while Aladja, an Urhobo ethnic nationality is in Udu Local Government Area.

“One person died in the shootout between the two communities, but normalcy has been restored,” Mr Edafe said.

A witness said peace returned to the communities after troops of 3 Battalion, Effurun and policemen took over the disputed area.

Meanwhile, a military source said troops found a lifeless body at the scene of the fracas and that the dead was a member of one of the warring communities.

“One rifle mounted with a magazine loaded with nine rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition was found beside the deceased,” the military personnel said.

He added that a suspect identified as a biological brother of the deceased was arrested at the vicinity for interrogation.
