The minister of power, Adebayo Adelabu, has stated that the federal government is actively working to settle outstanding payments to power generation companies in order to address the ongoing blackout.

Bolaji Tunji, special adviser, strategic communication and media relations to the minister of power, conveyed this in a statement in Abuja on Friday.

Mr Adelabu emphasised that the current blackout is a result of a reduced supply of gas to power generation companies.

He highlighted that the payments are intended to enhance gas supply and boost power generation, ultimately enabling distribution companies to provide more electricity to Nigerians.

“We acknowledge the current unsustainable situation, and we expect a turnaround immediately,” he stated.

The minister assured that efforts are underway for a swift resolution of the blackout, recognising the recent decline in power supply and its adverse impact on production in various parts of the country.

“This is mainly due to a decreased level of gas supply to generation companies. This situation has led to a lower level of energy supplied to load centres, which has affected the supply of electricity to distribution companies,” he explained.
