The minister of police affairs, Ibrahim Geidam, has urged the Police Community Relations Committee to commit towards confronting the emerging security challenges in the country.

Mr Geidam made the appeal on Thursday, at the 41st PCRC anniversary in Abuja.

“Your contributions have remained vital in confronting emerging security challenges, including but not limited to terrorism, banditry, cybercrime, and communal conflict,’’ he said.

Mr Geidam said the federal government recognised the committee’s role in crime prevention, intelligence gathering and public sensitisation, leading to peace, order, and national cohesion.

The minister further said PCRC would continue to be an essential partner in achieving the vision of the current administration of police reforms.

According to him, the ministry will continue to support the community-based policy structures in collaboration with other stakeholders.

The inspector general of police, Kayode Egbetokun, described the achievements of PCRC within four decades as significant progress in the Police Force and the country’s general security.

He commended the visions of the committee’s leaders for their dedication and commitment to assisting the police in their operations.

“I reaffirm the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen our synergy with PCRC for proactive security collaboration,” he said.

The PCRC national chairman, Mogaji Olaniyan, thanked the IGP  and other security agencies for their continuous support to the committee.

”We are here to support the police as the federal government alone cannot shoulder all security responsibilities, and there is a need for states’ interventions,’’ he said.

Mr Olaniyan called on Nigeria’s captains of industry and organisations to imitate Dangote, who had supported the police with equipment.

Mr Olaniyan, however, encouraged the communities to provide vital information on criminal activities to the security agents.

He added, “This year’s anniversary is targeting at recapitulating success, challenges and solutions within the last three decades.”
