Minister restates FG’s commitment to upgrade police force to global standard

Minister of State for Police Affairs Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim has restated the federal government’s commitment to upgrade the Nigeria Police Force to a global standard security organisation.
Ms Sulaiman-Ibrahim spoke on Tuesday during a working visit to the Kaduna State Police Command.
The minister toured some police facilities, which included barracks, police station, police primary school and college, among others.
Ms Sulaiman-Ibrahim told reporters after the inspection that the visit was to show solidarity, express gratitude to officers, and rebuild and restore citizens’ confidence in the force.
“The police are doing so much; we have to applaud them,” she said.
The minister added that President Bola Tinubu had inaugurated a reform committee which included her as a member.
She, therefore, said she came on her behalf and the Police Affairs Ministry to show solidarity and make an assessment of the force to chat the way forward.
“We should expect an actual reform; in the past, there have been reform papers that have never been implemented.
“What we should expect from the renewed police agenda is a reform that will actually be implemented so that we can actualise our dream of having a police force of the 21st century.
“Our officers are doing so much with so little; the police in Kaduna Command are doing very well.
“The police cannot be separated from their families; we will see a lot of welfare reform in their accommodations and other needs,” she added.
