The Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh, has tasked the Super Falcons to defeat their South African counterparts in the second leg of their Olympic qualifiers on Tuesday in Pretoria.

The minister made this known in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.

The Super Falcons, who have not qualified for the women football event of the Olympics in 16 years, piped the Bayana Bayana of South Africa 1-0 in the first leg in Abuja on Friday.

Mr Enoh stressed that having missed out in the 2012, 2016, and 2020 Olympic Games, it was time to reclaim their spot on the international stage.

He emphasised the importance of self-belief and resilience in achieving victory on Tuesday.

“The Super Falcons have shown remarkable strength and prowess throughout their journey, and now is the time for them to rise and conquer. We believe in their ability to overcome any challenge and make Nigeria proud,” he said.

The minister encouraged the team to soar to new heights and ultimately break the 16-year Olympic jink with the female national team.

“Mr Enoh said, “Breaking the 16-year Olympic jinx is not just a goal; it will be a perfect microcosm of the dedication and abilities of our athletes. I urge the Super Falcons to play with passion, determination, and unity, together we can rewrite history and inspire generations to come. As they step onto the pitch in South Africa, the Super Falcons carry the hopes and aspirations of millions of Nigerians. We stand with them every step of the way, providing the support they need to succeed.”

He consequently called on all Nigerians to rally behind the team, stressing the power of unity of purpose in the national assignment ahead.
