The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it will ensure the aggressive establishment of over 200 mobile courts to check road traffic offence during the Easter period.

The Corps spokesman Bisi Kazeem disclosed this in a statement, on Saturday, in Abuja.

Mr Kazeem said that this had become necessary to ensure a safe and smooth 2021 Easter celebrations, adding that the special patrol had been scheduled to commence from 31 March to terminate on April 1.

He said that the Corps had mobilised all its field and sector commands for the nationwide Easter patrol.

Mr Kazeem added that the Corps Marshal Boboye Oyeyemi had instructed all field commands to deploy personnel, alongside special marshals and other relevant stakeholders, on all the designated corridors and areas.

He noted that the offence to be checked would include, speed limit violations, overloading violations and physical distancing in vehicles, tyre violations, light signs violations, including directional lights headlights, backlight and brake light.

“Others include use of phone while driving, route violation and lane indiscipline; seat belt use violation, driving under the influence of alcohol/ drugs, dangerous driving, number plate violation, mechanically deficient vehicles and illegal parking,” he said.

On the overall preparedness of the Corps for the special operation, Mr Kazeem said that the Corps Marshal had expressed optimism that Nigerians would, as usual, cooperate with members of the Corps.

This, he said included other security agencies, as well as volunteers, who would come out to assist the Corps in traffic management during the period.

He stressed that with the massive deployment of personnel, logistics and the envisaged public support, the corps was expecting that the operation would be a huge success.

The FRSC has deployed 25, 224 personnel and other logistics to cover various highways across the country, with monitors also deployed to ensure compliance with operational guidelines during the Easter period.
