Mother, stepfather allegedly torture child to death over missing money

The police command in Kaduna has detained a couple over the death of a boy in the Kurmin-Mashi area.
The spokesman for the command, Mansir Hassan, confirmed the development and said an investigation had commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.
Mr Hassan said the death occurred on Sunday night along Dahiru Road in Kurmin-Mashi.
Preliminary information indicated that the teenager was allegedly punished by his mother and stepfather over missing money, the police said.
He said the police received reports that the boy had been sent to withdraw money from a point-of-sale operator before questions later arose over the transaction.
“The suspects are currently in police custody while investigation is ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the next line of action,” he said.
