Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has directed the police to apprehend killers of Olalekan Oyeyemi, otherwise called Emir Ajagungbade, in Ile-Ife, on Sunday over leadership of the state motor parks.

Mr Ajagungbade, an ally of Mr Adeleke, was locked in a struggle over control of the state’s motor parks from the current leader of commercial drivers, Nurudeen Alowonle.

In a statement on Sunday, the spokesperson for the governor, Olawale Rasheed, said Mr Adeleke ordered vacation of the motor parks including the warring groups.

He stated, “Law and order must be maintained. There will be no sacred cows as all culprits will be brought to book. We call on members of the public to remain calm.

“We will ensure restoration of peace in all the affected parks and areas. The security agencies are under instruction to ensure the sustainability of peace at all cost.

“We are reintroducing the Park Management System. I will soon issue an executive order to give effect to the new management system to manage parks and garages across the state.”

Also, the spokesperson for the Imole Campaign Council during the August 15 governorship poll for Mr Adeleke’s re-election, Pelumi Olajengbesi, expressed grief over Mr Oyeyemi’s murder.

Mr Olajengbesi in Facebook post on Sunday said, “The news of the death of Mr Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade, in Ile-Ife today is deeply unfortunate and painful. The loss of any human life through violence should trouble us all. Moments like this should compel us to reflect deeply on the kind of society we are building and the values we are passing to the generation coming behind us. 

“All of us, as a society, have a responsibility to build a culture where violence is not celebrated, where human life is respected, and where strength is measured by character rather than force. We must collectively choose a better path. We must rebuild our value system, discourage the culture of violence in all its forms, and ensure that the generation coming behind us inherits a society with greater respect for human dignity and the sanctity of life.”

He expressed condolences to the deceased’s family, friends and everyone affected by the incident, adding “May God grant us peace in Osun State.”
