Motorcycle thief stabbed rider to death in Ogun: Police

Operatives of the Igbesa division of the police command in Ogun, on Wednesday, arrested Chidi Ebere for stabbing a motorcycle rider to death.
Spokesperson for the command, Babaseyi Oluseyi, in a statement on Thursday, said that although the rider was rescued, he died in the hospital.
Mr Babaseyi said, “Detectives of the Igbesa Division, Ogun State Police Command, have arrested Chidi Ebere ‘M’, aged 27, for the alleged murder of a commercial motorcyclist in Igbesa, Ogun State. The incident occurred on Wednesday, 8th April 2026, at about 7 a.m.
“The suspect reportedly boarded a motorcycle operated by the victim, Sunday Ogbu ‘M’, aged 36, and attacked him in an attempt to seize the bike, resulting in a violent struggle. A witness at the scene raised the alarm, prompting police to rush to the scene. The victim was rescued and taken to the hospital for urgent medical attention, but was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.”
The suspect was apprehended immediately, according to the police, while the motorcycle and the knife used in the attack were recovered as exhibits.
“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for thorough investigation and prosecution.
