Motorists in Kano are lamenting the lingering petrol scarcity and the flagrant price increase.

Beleaguered motorists lamented the nefarious activities of shylock petrol marketers and the long queues at filling stations.

Only few stations sold fuel at the pump price of N165 per litre in Kano city, with such filling stations attracting high patronage, leading to long queues and motorists spending hours to buy fuel.

Some filling stations only sell in the night at exorbitant prices. The situation left motorists with no option other than to buy from the black market to avoid long queues.

A four-litre gallon of petrol at the black market costs N1,200 and above. Some filling stations on the outskirts of Kano metropolis sold at at N220 per litre and above. Some sold the fuel between N235 and N245 per litre.

Aminu Kabiru, a driver, said he encountered difficulties daily before getting fuel for his vehicle for the past four weeks. He explained that was why transport fares were increased.

Tasiu Musa, another motorist, said the development would only aggravate the people’s suffering.

“This could also lead to inflation because of the vital role that the transportation sector plays in the development of the economy,” he stated.

He urged the government to come to people’s aid by addressing the issue in good time.

Efforts to talk to the Kano chapter of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN)’s chairman Bashir Danmallam, were unsuccessful.
