Gernot Rohr, the head coach of Nigeria’s national football team, has unveiled the squad that will challenge the Central African Republic’s national team in world cup qualifiers in Lagos and Douala next week.

While Super Eagles forward Ahmed Musa will lead the team as captain, other seniors such as Wilfred Ndidi and Etebo Oghenekaro will be sitting out the match due to injuries.

Mr Rohr had invited Calvin Bassey, a Rangers defender, to his team’s 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against CAR.

Mr Bassey is eligible to play for Italy, Nigeria, and England but will make his national team debut for Nigeria next week.

Francis Uzoho, Daniel Akpeyi and Maduka Okoye have been shortlisted as goalkeepers while Chidozie Awaziem, Leon Balogun, William Ekong, Olaoluwa Aina, Jamilu Collins, Abdullahi Shehu, Kevin Akpoguma and new Calvin Ughelumba will form the defence.

Frank Onyeka, Joseph Ayodele-Aribo, Innocent Bonke, Alex Iwobi and Leicester’s Kelechi Iheanacho will star in the midfield, with Ahmed Musa, Samuel Kalu, Victor Osimhen, Moses Simon, Paul Onuachu and Chidera Ejuke as forwards.

The day 3 encounter will hold at the Teslim Balogun stadium in Lagos on Thursday, October 7, with the day 4 match in Douala, Cameroon on Sunday, October 10.
