Gov. Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, on Thursday, announced that his administration has successfully completed 16 out of 22 road projects initiated in Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area.

The governor made the disclosure at the inauguration of the Awokoya, Igbeba-Yidi Road, according to a statement released by his special adviser on media and strategy, Kayode Akinmade.

Mr Abiodun emphasised the administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure in the area, particularly due to the socio-economic importance of the roads and the need to prevent annual loss of lives, especially on the Yidi Road.

“Today, I stand here very proud, beating my chest, knowing that since 2019, this administration has awarded 22 roads in Ijebu-Ode alone,” Mr Abiodun said.

“Out of these 22 roads awarded, we have completed 16, while six others are currently ongoing.”

The governor recalled that Ijebu-Ode was one of the first cities he visited upon assuming office on May 29, 2019, due to concerns about flooding and erosion reported by residents.

“I made a promise that my administration would ensure that these issues become history,” he added.

Mr Abiodun reiterated his administration’s commitment to fair and equitable distribution of developmental projects across all parts of Ogun.

While highlighting Ogun’s rising national profile, he noted that with the recent successful hosting of the National Sports Festival (NSF), the state had transformed into Nigeria’s cultural capital.

He also mentioned the state’s existing status as the industrial, educational, and sports capital.

Mr Abiodun credited the progress to the “can-do” spirit of the people of Ogun and assured residents of Ijebuland that the 2025 Ojude Oba Festival would be even more memorable and elevated to international standards.
