Former presidential aide, Doyin Okupe, on Saturday expressed his optimism that his son Bolu, would still turn away from his homosexual orientation and declare for Jesus Christ.

Peoples Gazette earlier reported that the younger Okupe took to social media to declare that he is gay.

Mr. Okupe, a medical doctor and a self-acclaimed evangelist, while reacting to his son’s declaration, attributed it to a spiritual challenge.

The former spokesman to President Goodluck Jonathan also admitted that he was aware of his 27-year-old son’s sexuality, even though he is strongly against it.

In a Facebook post where he celebrated one of his sons, Dewunmi, who made the 2017 list of most influential Africans, Mr. Okupe maintained that Bolu resides in France where homosexuality is not prohibited.

“I love all the children God has given me, Bolu inclusive. Bolu will still be celebrated on this wall, in Nigeria and globally, in the name of Jesus,” he said in part.

“Bolu is not a criminal. He lives in France where Homosexuality is not a crime.

“His present mindset and sexual orientation does not conform to Christian Doctrine which I hold to, with my life. But I am certain that with the boldness he has made his declaration, he will still use the same attribute to serve God and boldly declare His Glory in Christ Jesus,” he added.

In 2014, Mr. Jonathan who was the then president signed a bill that criminalises same-sex relationships, with a penalty of 14 years in prison.
