N1.7 Million Anointment: Ibadan man arrested for defrauding Celestial Church of Christ

On Thursday, a 69-year-old man, Charles Aremu, was arraigned before the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for defrauding Celestial Church of Christ of N1.7 million.
Mr Aremu is charged with obtaining money under false pretences and theft.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Oladejo Balogun, told the court that the defendant committed the offence in January 2023 at the church.
Mr Balogun said the defendant obtained N1.7 million from the church to buy anointment but failed to do so.
He said the defendant converted the money to personal use.
The magistrate, Olasinmibo Sanusi-Zubair, admitted the defendant to bail of N700,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until September 23 for a hearing.
