The Nigeria Customs Service says it has intercepted and seized 2,437 parcels of cannabis in Ogun, with a total duty-paid value of N131,598,000 from January to date.

The customs area comptroller, Olukayode Afeni, disclosed this while handing over the drugs to Olaniyi Ekundayo, commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Idiroko special area command, at Idiroko on Tuesday.

Mr Afeni said that the cache of narcotics seized was meant to be consumed by youths between the ages of 20 and 21 in the state.

“I want to urge our parents to admonish their children against the use of drugs because substance abuse does not do any good to the people taking it,” he said.

Upon receiving the seized substance, Mr Ekundayo reiterated the agency’s commitment to continue partnering with the Customs service to eliminate drug trafficking through the country’s land borders.

Mr Ekundayo urged all stakeholders to work together to fight the scourge of drug abuse in the country.

He said that the necessary laboratory  test would be conducted to confirm the substance to be cannabis sativa.

Mr Ekundayo warned youths to refrain from taking drugs in order not to destroy their future.
