The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high labour standards and promoting staff welfare as part of efforts to enhance institutional effectiveness.

In a statement on Monday in Lagos, the commission said its performance as a regulatory body was closely tied to the professionalism, dedication and well-being of its workforce.

NAICOM noted that since the assumption of office of its current leadership, deliberate steps had been taken to improve working conditions and strengthen staff welfare. 

It said the measures included enhancing internal processes, creating a supportive work environment, and fostering a workplace culture anchored on fairness, productivity, mutual respect and accountability.

The commission described staff welfare as a top priority, adding that significant progress had been recorded in training and capacity development, career growth, workplace improvements and performance-based advancement.

“These initiatives are designed to build a skilled, motivated and result-driven workforce aligned with the commission’s strategic goals,” it said.

NAICOM also emphasised that it operates a transparent and merit-based human resource system in compliance with public service rules and relevant regulatory frameworks.

According to the commission, promotion exercises were conducted in line with due process, based on clear, objective and verifiable criteria, with equal treatment for all staff without favouritism or bias.

It added that discipline, integrity and positive working relationships remained central to its operations, stressing its commitment to equity, transparency and non-discrimination in all engagements.

The commission further said management remained open to constructive dialogue, urging staff to utilise established internal communication and dispute resolution channels to address concerns.

NAICOM assured stakeholders of its continued investment in staff welfare, professional development and institutional excellence in line with global best practices and its statutory mandate to regulate and strengthen Nigeria’s insurance industry.

The commission disclosed that an earlier attempt by certain individuals, through external actors, to undermine the credibility of its leadership was unsuccessful.

It said the move was rejected by staff members, who declined to be associated with what it described as unfounded claims, adding that the situation had been resolved and normalcy restored.

NAICOM stated that its operations remained uninterrupted, reaffirming its commitment to professionalism, fairness, dedication and accountability in service to the public.
