The police command in Delta says nine people have been arrested for setting two banks and two vehicles ablaze on Wednesday in the Udu Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s spokesman, Bright Edafe, said this in a tweet shortly after the protest against new naira notes scarcity.

“In UDU LGA of Delta State, some unguided youths/miscreants in the name of protest have set two banks and two vehicles ablaze,” Mr Edafe said.

He added, “We have arrested nine suspects so far. Some persons will still call this protest.”

An eyewitness said some people who were angry about the non-availability of cash in banks and the rejection of the old naira notes protested and set ablaze two vehicles around Express Junction and Ovwian area of Udu.

Normalcy has been restored following the swift intervention of security operatives deployed to forestall a total breakdown of law and order.

There have been protests in some parts of the country over the continued new naira notes scarcity.
