The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has commended the State Security Service (SSS) for its role in ensuring the peaceful and successful conduct of its 2026 national convention.

‎The President of NANS, Babatunde Akinteye, gave the commendation in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.

‎Mr Akinteye described the convention as historic, noting that the professionalism, vigilance and strategic coordination displayed by the SSS contributed significantly to the peaceful atmosphere that characterised the exercise.

‎He said the association, as the umbrella body for Nigerian students at home and in the diaspora, benefited from the robust security measures put in place by the agency throughout the convention.

‎According to him, the SSS played a vital role in maintaining order, safeguarding participants and ensuring a credible and hitch-free process.

‎The NANS president also praised the Director-General of the SSS, Mr Adeola Ajayi, for his leadership and support towards the successful conduct of the convention.

‎“We appreciate the commitment of the DSS leadership and operatives whose professionalism and dedication helped guarantee a peaceful and credible convention.

‎“Their efforts contributed immensely to the successful outcome of the exercise and the smooth transition process within the association,” he said.

‎Mr Akinteye further expressed confidence in the capacity of the SSS to continue discharging its mandate of maintaining internal security and supporting democratic processes in the country.

‎He also acknowledged the sacrifices and contributions of SSS operatives deployed for the convention, describing their conduct as exemplary.

‎He expressed optimism that the existing collaboration between the association and the security agency would be strengthened in the interest of Nigerian students and national development.

‎He reaffirmed the association’s commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to promote peace, stability and constructive engagement across the country.
