NANS commends Tinubu for upgrading TASUED to federal varsity

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has commended the federal government for adopting Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) in Ijagun, near Ijebu-Ode in Ogun, as a federal university.
The association, in a statement in Abeokuta on Sunday by Praise Akinbodunse, NANS national vice-president on inter-campus affairs, said it was a kind gesture by the federal government.
“It is an indication that the present administration, led by President Bola Tinubu, means well for the overall development of the education sector in the country,” it said.
NANS also commended Gov. Dapo Abiodun of Ogun for sustaining the school to date in spite of efforts by previous administrations in the state to scrap the institution.
“As students in the state, we will not forget that during our struggle in order not to allow the institution to be scrapped by previous administrations, sometime in 2012, we lost some of our colleagues.
“We celebrate these our colleagues every Feb. 14.
“It’s a thing of joy today that President Tinubu has deemed it fit to elevate TASUED to a federal institution, which means our efforts are not in vain,” the association said.
It also expressed its appreciation of the Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, and other well-meaning Nigerians who stood their ground to ensure the school was not scrapped.
He said the student community would continue to give the federal government the necessary support for the overall benefit of Nigerian students.
President Bola Tinubu approved the adoption of TASUED on Friday, with his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, making the announcement in a statement on Sunday.
