The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has begun a full investigation into the alleged child molestation at a Lagos daycare centre, following resurfaced tweets by Nigerian singer Simisola Kosoko, professionally known as Simi.

The agency had on Tuesday indicated plans to commence investigation once it received credible reports.

In a statement released on Friday, the agency noted that its director-general, Binta Adamu Bello, had “directed operatives to commence a full-scale investigation” on the case.

While announcing the probe, the agency acknowledged the “genuine concern of Nigerians on the matter,” and urged anyone with credible information or personal experiences to come forward.

“While appreciating the genuine concern of Nigerians on the matter, the Agency wishes to inform the general public that all its communication platforms are active and available to take complaints from anyone who may have been abused or violated on the said Day-care,” the statement read.

This development comes amid the backlash the singer is facing after her old posts on X about children resurfaced.

The posts were made while she was working at her mother’s daycare.

Many have described them as inappropriate and disturbing, but the singer has said the posts were taken out of context and insists they were not made out of perversion.
