The speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Ibrahim Abdullahi, has decried the nonpayment of impress and furniture allowances to some deputy chairmen of the 13 local government councils by their principals.

The speaker assured the affected deputy chairs that the issues would be resolved amicably to enable them to perform their duties without hitches and for effective service delivery, peace and unity.

He stated this while playing host to the forum of deputy chairmen of the 13 local government areas in his office in Lafia on Thursday.

He said the payment of the allowances would also improve their standard of living and that of their family members, among other people.

“I will not be happy if I am in your shoes. I will not take the issue lightly; you have joint tickets with your chairmen, and payment of your allowances is constitutional,” the speaker said.

“I have heard all your complaints, and your issues will be addressed amicably,” said Mr Abdullahi. “I will invite the chairmen and you people for a round table discussion in order to solve the issue once and for all.”

The speaker called on the deputy chairs to support Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration to succeed.

Earlier, Lawal Karshi, the forum chairman and deputy chairman of Karu Local Government Council, appealed to the speaker to intervene in some chairmen’s nonpayment of impress and furniture allowances.

“Sir, we want to appeal to you to intervene in the area of increasing our monthly impress of N200,000 considering the present economic challenges.

“We are also appealing to you to intervene for constant payment of our monthly impress and furniture allowances,” he said.
