Nasarawa assembly urges residents to stay peaceful over mining site petition

The Nasarawa House of Assembly Committee on Environment has urged the Igwo community to remain peaceful, sequel to the mining land ownership tussle.
Mohammed Omadefu, chairman of the committee, made the call when he led his members on a fact-finding mission to Baoan Global Mining Ltd in Igwo community in Kokona LGA over a petition.
Mr Omadefu said the petition was received from the family of Osanga Otogoyi against one Alhaji Ali, whose family leased their land to him for mining.
“We are here on the receipt of a complaint by the Osanga Otogoyi family, who complained that they have leased a portion of a mining pit to someone for mining purposes. The person went ahead to sell a portion of the land which is against their initial agreement.
“We are here to do our findings to ascertain the true position in the interest of peace and for the overall development of the area. We will ensure that justice is done on the matter,” Mr Omadefu said.
Mr Omadefu added that the committee would invite all the affected persons to investigate the matter thoroughly. He called on the people of the area and other adjoining communities to remain calm while assuring them of justice.
“We are appealing to the inhabitants of this community to please refrain from any negative acts and remain calm as we want to assure them that justice will be done on the matter,” Mr Omadefu explained.
The committee had visited the Palace of the village head of the Igwo community, Mohammed Otogoyi, to inform him of their mission.
