Nasarawa assembly warns contractors against substandard road projects
The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has warned contractors handling road projects across the state against executing substandard work.
Jacob Kudu, chairman of the House Committee on Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC), Multilateral Cooperation and Community Development, gave the warning on Friday while inspecting road projects in Lafia, the state capital, and Nassarawa Eggon Local Government Area (LGA).
The projects inspected include the Akurba-Prescious FM Station Gate in Lafia, Nassarawa Eggon-Alizaga Hill-Umme-Bakyano-Langi-Arikiya, with a spur to Arugbadu, and the 24-kilometre Nassarawa Eggon-Mada Station Road.
“I want to urge the contractor handling the construction of the 24km Nassarawa Eggon-Mada Station Road to adhere strictly to project specifications.
“This is to improve the standard of living of the people plying the road,” he said.
Mr Kudu said that when completed, the roads would not only improve the standard of living of the people but also boost agricultural and socio-economic activities.
The committee chairman said the inspection visit was to ensure that contractors strictly adhered to project specifications and delivered quality work.
“This visit is not to witch-hunt anybody but to ensure that the right things are done for the benefit of our people,” he said.
Mr Kudu said the House would not accept substandard work from contractors, adding that they would not be allowed to short-change the government and the people of the state.
“We will not allow any contractor to short-change the government and our people.
“What we want is quality and standard work to enable our people enjoy the dividends of democracy,” he said.
The committee chairman commended the contractors for the work done so far and called on them to speed up their work.
