Nasarawa poly student allegedly kills schoolmate during fight

The police in Nasarawa have arrested John Gambo, a student of the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa State, for allegedly killing his schoolmate during a “violent altercation.”
The police said in a statement on Friday by its spokesperson Ramhan Nansel that Mr Gambo allegedly killed Ibrahim Matthew, a computer science student, on Thursday, using a knife and an axe.
Mr Nansel said the suspect was arrested after one Mercy Bassey, a resident of a lodge behind ECWA Peace College, Shagari Road, where the incident occurred, reported at the police station at about 2:00 p.m.
“Ibrahim had suffered fatal injuries. He was immediately rushed to General Hospital Nasarawa, where he was confirmed dead. The body was subsequently deposited in the morgue for post-mortem examination.
“Following a swift investigation, the suspect, one John Gambo, a male ND2 student in the Banking and Finance Department of the same institution, was apprehended.
“The suspect confessed to violently attacking/hacking the deceased with both an axe and a knife, leading to Ibrahim Matthew’s tragic death. Both the axe and the knife were recovered from the suspect,” Mr Nansel said.
He said the state police commissioner has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for comprehensive investigation and subsequent prosecution.
