The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufo-Alike Ikwo, Ebonyi State branch, said it will sanction defaulters of its ongoing nationwide strike.

Recall that the Joint Action Committee of the non-teaching staff unions of universities on Monday embarked on an indefinite nationwide strike due to the non-payment of the withheld four months’ salaries.

The JAC comprises the NASU and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities.

The AE-FUNAI’s NASU Chairman, Chibuike Igwe, said on Tuesday that the union had mobilised for full compliance to the industrial action in the university.

Mr Igwe said, “Yes, having completely carried all our members along effectively from the day of the national protest of July 17, to date, we are eager to join efforts with the national headquarters to press home our demand. In AE-FUNAI, we have declared a strike, in line with the national headquarters’ directive. Monitoring team will continue to move around to enforce full compliance. The defaulters of the strike will be surely penalised. The university management has communicated adequately. We need our money because we worked for it. Let the Federal Government pay us our withheld four months salaries and we shall return to work. For now, no going back to work until something positive is done for the benefit of our members.’’
