Despite a curfew banning political gatherings in the Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State imposed ahead of the homecoming of suspended lawmaker, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, supporters trooped out to welcome the lawmaker.

Mrs Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, was welcomed home amid rousing cheers from her supporters on Tuesday.

The lawmaker’s visit came despite a ban placed on political activities in her local government on the grounds of possible security breakdown.

Earlier on Tuesday, Okehi LGA Chairman, Amoka Eneji, announced a ban on political gatherings, urging Mrs Akpoti-Uduaghan to cancel her planned visit in the interest of peace and order.

Mrs Akpoti-Uduaghan, however, shunned the order, insisting that she would not back down on her plan to return to her constituency for the Sallah break.

“Despite rumours circulating online, there has been no official announcement from our office regarding the cancellation of this visit. As the senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan remains committed to engaging with her community and fostering a spirit of unity and cooperation,” the suspended lawmaker noted.

Mrs Akpoti-Uduaghan has been in the news following her suspension by the Senate last month for violating Senate rules.

The embattled lawmaker described her suspension as witch-hunt by the Senate and an attempt to silence her for accusing the Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual molestation.
