NATO: Russia cuts off gas supply to Finland

Russia on Friday said that gas exports to Finland would be cut off, starting from May 21, according to Finnish energy provider Gasum, citing correspondence from Gazprom.
The flow of gas from Russia is set to stop at 7:00 a.m. (0400 GMT).
“It is highly regrettable that natural gas supplies under our supply contract will now be halted.
“However, we have been carefully preparing for this situation and provided that there will be no disruptions in the gas transmission network,’’ Gasum wrote on Friday, saying it had set up alternate supply networks.
Meanwhile, Finland had this week applied to join NATO, a move that likely angered Russia.
The country, which had long complained that the Western defence bloc was encroaching too close to its borders and which launched its ongoing invasion of Ukraine, presumably to stop its government from considering NATO membership and closer ties to the West.
