The Nigeria Association of Tour Operators (NATOP) on Wednesday unveiled its national secretariat in Lagos to boost tourism activities.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, permanent secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, said the secretariat would strengthen domestic tourism.

Ms Oyekan-Ismaila said it would also create a unique leisure and business hub for residents and visitors.

She described the facility as an experience centre that combined business, wellness, and relaxation in one location, making it attractive for people seeking short leisure breaks within the state.

“It’s going to help promote domestic tourism and community tourism a lot,” she said.

According to her, the facility, which offers amenities including a massage area, a culinary space, a relaxation lounge, and conference facilities, will encourage more people to explore leisure opportunities within Lagos State.

Earlier, NATOP president Bolaji Mustapha said the unveiling of the secretariat was a major milestone, being the association’s first operational headquarters since inception.

“This is the first time in history that NATOP is having a secretariat. The essence is for us to be visible so that they know where to locate us,” she said.

Ms Mustapha said the facility was designed to serve members and the public through workstations, meeting lounges, and a conference room.

She also noted that the new headquarters would address quackery in tour operations through improved professionalism and regular training.

Also speaking, NATOP board of trustees chairman Nkereuwem Onung said the opening of the secretariat symbolised stability and growth for the association.

Mr Onung urged state governments to continue partnering with NATOP to promote Nigeria as a tourism destination.

The unveiling is the first of several activities scheduled to mark the 10th NATOP Annual General Meeting, holding in Lagos from July 8 to July 12, 2026.
