The Naval Officers’ Wives Association on Sunday held a Christmas Carol and Night of Nine Lessons, with a call for deeper reflection, unity and prayers for personnel in frontline operations.

The national president of NOWA, Aisha Abbas, in her welcome remarks, said the carol was organised to celebrate God’s faithfulness and to promote fellowship among naval families.

Ms Abbas said the theme, ‘Glory to God in the Highest’, underscored the season’s message of peace, hope and goodwill.

“This evening reminds us to stand together as one family, to strengthen our bond of service, and to remember those who ensure our nation sleeps in peace,” she said.

Ms Abbas thanked the chief of the naval staff, Idi Abbas, for his support for NOWA activities and reaffirmed the association’s commitment to humanitarian outreach, empowerment initiatives, and the welfare of naval families.

The special guest of honour and former NOWA president, Theresa Ibas, said the Christmas carol served as a reminder of God’s boundless love and an opportunity to renew commitment to peace on earth.

Ms Ibas urged prayers for personnel who had made the supreme sacrifice, for those deployed in challenging theatres, and for their families spending Christmas apart.

“May the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, keep their hearts and strengthen their spirits,” she said.

Ms Ibas commended NOWA for championing nationwide empowerment programmes, including skills acquisition, medical outreaches and support for widows and orphans, describing the initiatives as an expression of “love made visible.”

She also lauded the support of the chief of the naval staff, adding that the resilience of officers’ wives remained a backbone for naval personnel committed to safeguarding the nation’s maritime domain.

The event featured scripture readings, hymns, presentations and special musical performances by NOWA members from different units and formations across the country.

The event was also part of activities to commemorate the association’s 60th Anniversary, previously celebrated on Friday with an anniversary dinner and award night.
