The Nigerian Navy Provost Regulating School Makurdi on Thursday offered free medical services to Kanshio Community in the Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State.

The commandant, Suleiman Abdullahi, who inaugurated the medical outreach, said that the target was to treat 1000 beneficiaries.

Mr Abdullahi said the gesture was to appreciate the Kanshio Community for their overwhelming support to the school.

The commandant explained that the exercise was part of civil-military relations with host communities and one of the many ways to appreciate them for their continuous support.

He added that the Navy enjoyed a cordial relationship with the people since the school’s inception in the community.

“This exercise is part of the civil-military relations activities of the school geared towards strengthening relationships with its host community. We carry out many activities to encourage the host community to continue to support the activities of the Nigerian Navy Provost Regulating School, Makurdi.

“As it is said, health is wealth. So health to us is important, and we need the people to be very healthy to be able to continue to support our activities.

“The Navy barracks is domiciled here in Kanshio, and since its existence, we have enjoyed a robust and cordial relationship with the people, and this has helped promote our activities here,” he said.

Earlier, the medical officer, Misi Manaseh, said they were offering free tests for body mass index, blood pressure check, blood sugar test, malaria test, hepatitis B&C test and weight management tips.

Mr Manaseh said they would further provide free medication for malaria, diabetes, hypertension, ulcers and more during the exercise.

A community leader, Peter Ejeh, commended the navy for bringing quality and free medical services to their doorsteps.
