NBA Benin chairman warns lawyers against sharp practices

The chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Benin branch, Idemudia Iredia-Osifo, has urged members to jettison sharp practices and embrace prestige and abundance.
Mr Iredia-Osifo made the call on Wednesday during a sensitisation programme on the Legal Practitioners Remuneration Order 2023 and the official launch of branch seals in Benin.
He noted that the launch of the Remuneration Order 2023 signalled the start of a new and rewarding era for the NBA Benin Branch.
The chairman stressed that the initiative transcends remuneration, establishing an enduring symbol of prestige befitting a lawyer called to the Nigerian Bar.
He urged members to serve as committed ambassadors of the new regime and to adopt its principles without compromise.
Mr Iredia-Osifo encouraged lawyers to engage clients openly, explaining the new procedures with confidence and transparency.
He stated that the work was only beginning, with sensitisation aimed at enlightening both members and the wider public on the new land documentation regime.
He warned that those persisting in sharp practices risk severe consequences, including the potential stripping of their professional title.
The chairman emphasised that the branch would no longer tolerate pittance or roguery, insisting members must uphold the dignity of the legal profession.
In spite of anticipated challenges, he expressed confidence that most members would align with the new order, working collectively to improve the welfare of lawyers in Benin.
Mr Iredia-Osifo added that the launch of the Remuneration Order 2023 and branch seals represented a fresh beginning, with collective greatness within reach.
