NCC forced us to increase calling rates for Nigerians in diaspora: Boss Revolution
Boss Revolution has announced that it will be increasing its tariff plans due to a change enforced by the Nigerian Communications Commission.
In a bulletin shared with its customers and seen by Peoples Gazette, the international phone service provider disclosed that all calling plans to Nigeria would be discontinued, and its rates have been increased to 12 cents per minute.
“Due to a regulatory change by the Nigerian Communications Commission that is beyond our control, calling rates to Nigeria will increase to 12c / min, and all current calling plans to Nigeria will be discontinued on September 1, 2022,” the memo said.
Ahead of the hike, Boss Revolution’s rates were between six to eight cents per minute. Nigerians abroad have long relied on Boss Revolution to keep in touch with family members back home at affordable rates.
On August 25, the NCC issued an amended Determination of Mobile (Voice) International Termination Rate (ITR) for implementation in the Nigerian Telecommunications Industry effective from September 1, 2022.
The ITR for voice services paid for terminating international calls on local networks in Nigeria was increased to $0.10, from the old rate of $0.045.
On Wednesday, the NCC’s director of Public Affairs Reuben Muoka, said the amended determination came as the international carrier market was being classified into Mobile Network Operators (MNOs)/International Carriers and Small/Nigerian Transit Carriers/International Data Access (IDA) Operators.

The provider had also partnered with Nigerian banks like First Bank, United Bank for Africa (UBA) and Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB).
