NDLEA arraigns two men for dealing in 789kg cannabis
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Friday arraigned two men in Lagos for alleged illegal dealings in Cannabis Sativa.
The defendants, Jelili Kamoru, 44, and Sodiq Oduola, 25, were arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and illegal dealings in 798kg of the banned substance.
However, they pleaded not guilty to the charge before Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of a Federal High Court.
After their pleas, the prosecutor, Jeremiah Aernan, asked the court for a trial date.
Defence counsel, Uche Okoronkwo, moved bail applications on behalf of the defendants, urging the court to grant them bail on liberal terms.
Mr Aneke adjourned the case until November 29, for ruling on the bail applications.
The NDLEA alleged in the charge that the defendants committed the offences on October 25, and were arrested on a tipoff at Akala in Mushin, Lagos State.
According to the agency, Cannabis Sativa weighing 798kg was recovered from the defendants during a search.
