The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 62-year-old Lagos businessman at Kano airport while travelling to China with 95 jumbo wraps of cocaine.

NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, in a statement on Sunday, said the drugs, weighing 1.589kg, were concealed in the suspect’s stomach.

Mr Babafemi said the suspect was arrested on January 31 during outward clearance for an Ethiopian Airlines flight to China via Addis Ababa.

He explained that the suspect tested positive during screening and was placed under excretion observation.

“While under observation, he expelled 95 pellets of cocaine in seven excretions,” Mr Babafemi said.

According to him, the suspect claimed he trafficked drugs to raise money to complete his country home in Iwollo, Enugu State.

Meanwhile, NDLEA operatives recovered 627.7kg of skunk from a makeshift warehouse at Fums Plaza in Kubwa, Abuja.

Mr Babafemi said officers also foiled attempts to smuggle methamphetamine concealed in MP3 speakers from Enugu to Abuja and Kaduna.

“A follow-up operation led to one arrest in Zuba, while three others were arrested in Kaduna while collecting 28 grams of meth,” he said.

In Taraba, NDLEA intercepted a suspect conveying yoghurt packs concealing 1.8kg of methamphetamine en route to Adamawa.

Mr Babafemi added that officers arrested a Beninoise national in Oyo State, recovering 149.6kg of skunk hidden in rice shafts.

“In Ibadan, officers seized 10,820 ampoules of pentazocine and 117,820 capsules of tramadol from a truck,” he said.
