NDLEA nabs ex-Lagos councillor, legislative aide Sheleru Sadiq Olalekan for drug trafficking

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested Sheleru Sadiq Olalekan, a legislative aide in the Lagos House of Assembly, for trafficking drugs.
Mr Olalekan, a former two-term councillor in the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Council in Lagos State, was arrested on March 2.
The NDLEA said in a statement on Sunday that Mr Olalekan was arrested “following credible intelligence linking him to illicit drug sale and trafficking,” NDLEA said ina statement on Sunday.
“The 45-year-old ex-local council chief who currently serves as a legislative aide was arrested on Monday, 2nd March 2026, at his residence in Ilado, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, where a search was conducted and 40 kilogrammes of skunk, a strain of cannabis, were recovered from one of his rooms,” NDLEA said.
It added that Mr Olalekan, “in his statement, admitted ownership of the exhibit and the property where it was recovered. He said he had previously served two terms as a Councilor representing the Orimedu community in the Ibeju-Lekki local government council.”
The NDLEA, however, did not mention the specific office Mr Olalekan is serving in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Mr Olalekan’s arrest comes as another episode of arrest in connection with drug trafficking done by the NDLEA in the Lekki axis of Lagos State.
In February, a Lagos-based real estate executive officer of Trans Fortress Global Resources, Kolapo Oladapo, was arrested for an alleged illicit drug trafficking racket.
