NEMA distributes relief materials to flood victims in Akwa Ibom

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), on Wednesday, distributed relief materials to persons affected by flood and erosion disasters in Ikot Abasi/Mkpat Enin/Eastern Obolo federal constituency of Akwa Ibom.
The distribution held at the Ikot Abasi Local Government Town Hall was done under the federal government’s special intervention.
The relief materials distributed included: rice, garri, spaghetti, vegetable oil, seasoning cubes, tomato paste and iodised salt.
In her remarks, NEMA head of operations in Akwa Ibom, Mmandu Aisueni, sympathised with the victims for their losses.
Ms Aisueni, represented by Enewan Afangide, assistant chief verification officer, Uyo NEMA office, urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the relief items.
She emphasised the importance of proactive disaster risk reduction measures to avoid future occurrences.
The NEMA official reassured the people of NEMA’s unwavering commitment to timely and effective disaster response.
“The effects of the flooding have been deeply felt in these communities, disrupting property and livelihoods, leaving many in urgent need.
“Today, we are distributing these relief items not just as a gesture of support but as a demonstration of our shared humanity and commitment to your recovery,” she said.
In his remarks, Uduak Udodoh, member representing Ikot Abasi/Mkpat Enin/Eastern Obolo federal constituency, commended the federal government and NEMA for the intervention.
Mr Udodoh noted that the relief materials would provide the much-needed succour for the constituents affected by the disasters.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Comfort Ekpotu expressed profound gratitude to the federal government and NEMA for the prompt response and release of the relief materials.
