NFF sets up committee to address football setbacks
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has constituted a six-member fact-finding committee to investigate the poor performances of the country’s national teams in recent international competitions.
In a statement on Friday in Abuja, the federation said the committee will pay particular attention to the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
The Super Falcons, 10-time champions and holders of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), were eliminated from the ongoing 14th edition in Morocco at the quarter-final stage.
Nigeria subsequently lost 1-2 to South Africa in the playoff for a place in the inter-confederation playoffs, scheduled for later this year.
The result means Nigeria will miss the FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time since the competition began in 1991.
The committee is headed by former NFF general secretary Fanny Amun MON, while former Nigeria U-20 coach and President of the Nigeria Football Coaches Association Ladan Bosso is a member.
Other members are former Super Falcons captain Desire Oparanozie and former Super Eagles captain Mutiu Adepoju.
Former FIFA referee Alex Mana is also a member, while Sokoto State Football Association chairman Nasir Sa’idu will serve as secretary.
The NFF said the committee is expected to examine the factors behind the recent setbacks.
The committee would also make recommendations to improve the performance of Nigeria’s national teams in future competitions.
