A peace building organisation, Green Advocacy and Resilience Building (GACRB) – West Africa, has commenced training of 100 stakeholders on transitional justice in the North-East.

The stakeholders were drawn from the three states of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe that are worst affected by the Boko Haram insurgency.

Speaking at the commencement of the training in Maiduguri on Friday, a facilitator, Dr Ibrahim Ahmed of the University of Maiduguri, said the  measure was to promote ongoing reconciliation in the affected communities.

Mr Ahmed said that the stakeholders were drawn from communities and civil society organisations (CSOs) working in the region to ensure sustainability and localisation of approach in implementing transitional justice.

According to Mr Ahmed, the training would also support the Borno model of ongoing deradicalisation, rehabilitation and reintegration of surrendered Boko Haram members by government and as well as promote social justice cohesion.

In his address, the executive director of GACRB – West Africa, Prof. Mala Mustapha, said the organisation had already provided the training manual designed to provide the needed guide for sustainable peace and reconciliation.

Mr Mustapha who spoke on the shallow ideas used by Boko Haram to foment the conflict that was now deconstructed by religious leaders, said there would be no lasting peace and reconciliation without justice.

Highlight of the training is the unveiling of a manual by  GACRB tilted “Sulhu Sai Da Adalchi” meaning ‘reconciliation requires Justice’ in Hausa language.
