Niger govt. hands over construction of 45km Bida ring road to contractor

The Niger state ministry of works and infrastructural development has handed over the construction of the 45-kilometre Bida Ring Road to Arab contractors.
At the event on Wednesday in Bida, the commissioner for works and infrastructural development, Sulieman Umar, said that this was a demonstration of Gov. Umar Bago’s commitment to urban renewal.
He said the project, with various intersections, would be dual carriage in order to ease traffic within the town, especially by articulated vehicles.
The commissioner commended the Governor for showing commitment to fulfilling his campaign promises, adding that the project would create jobs and boost the economy of the area.
In his remarks, the deputy director of civil engineering services in the ministry, Kudu Madami, expressed confidence in the ability of the contractors, stating that the formal handover signals the commencement of the project.
Mr Madami said the contract would be for a period of 30 months.
Also speaking, Baba Shaba, chairman of Bida Local Government, noted that the council and the people of the area would give all necessary support for the success of the project.
Mr Shaba expressed joy that the project, when completed, would boost commercial activities in Bida, which would also add to the beauty of the ancient town.
On his part, the managing director of Arab contractors, Mohammed El-Darous, promised to deliver the project as stipulated, adding that the firm is quality-oriented.
It would be recalled that prior to the handover, the team visited the life camp and operational base of the contractors.
