Niger police arrest suspected armed robber, recover toy gun

The Niger Police Command says one Usman Isyaku, 28, is in its custody for alleged armed robbery.
The command’s spokesman, SP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed in a statement on Thursday that officers recovered a toy gun and a cellphone from him, following a robbery in Minna.
Mr Abiodun said that the Rijau division, at about 8:00 a.m. on October 24, received a report that some armed robbers invaded a residence in Rijau at about 1:00 p.m., wearing face masks.
He added that the victim was robbed of an Infinix phone, a motorcycle, shop keys, and some money.
“The robbers later proceeded to the shop of the victim and stole some money and other items.
“On receipt of the report, police operatives of the division commenced investigation with technical aid, and one Usman Isyaku, 28, of Rijau was arrested in connection with the crime,” Mr Abiodun stated.
He added that the suspect admitted to committing the crime during interrogation, with two others still at large.
“In the course of the investigation, a search was conducted in the suspect’s house, and some items were recovered.
“These items include one toy gun, one Infinix phone robbed from the victim, one cutlass, one ATM card, one motorcycle tyre, one tyre tube, as well as some illicit drugs.
“The suspect is in custody under investigation, and efforts to arrest others are in progress,” Mr Abiodun stated.
He added that the feat was a result of the command’s continuous effort in fighting crime and criminality in the state.
