The number of confirmed coronavirus cases reported in Nigeria crossed the 100,000 mark on Sunday as 1024 new cases were recorded.

Since Nigeria recorded its index case late February 2020, the number of cases reported has continued to increase, hitting 100,087. Over 80,000 persons have been treated and discharged, while 1,358 have died due to the pandemic.

According to National Centre for Disease Control, Lagos, Plateau and Benue state recorded 653, 73, and 48 respectively on Sunday, Zamfara 45, FCT 42, Rivers 27, Ondo and Adamawa-26 each.

Kaduna recorded 22 cases of coronavirus on Sunday, Edo 18, Ogun 16, Imo 12, Kano 9, Yobe 6, Ekiti 5, Jigawa 4, Osun 2, while Kogi and Cross Rivers State are yet to officially report any case.

This comes a few days after the federal government announced that 100,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine is expected to arrive the country by the end of this month.

Meanwhile, the  global number of coronavirus cases reported on Sunday crossed 90million, with over 1.9million deaths recorded as a result of the pandemic. Over 64 million persons have recovered from the deadly virus globally.

While it is unclear if Nigeria would declare a second lockdown to curb the spread of the second wave of coronavirus, countries like the UK and France have embarked on a second lockdown as the second wave of coronavirus continues to ravage the world.
