Nigeria wins 15th African women’s wrestling title

Nigeria’s wrestling team won the 15th African wrestling championships on Saturday, after emerging overall winners in the women’s category in Alexandria, Egypt.
Nigeria won a total of eight gold and two silver medals out of 10 available medals to clinch the title for a record 15th time.
Nigeria’s duo, Andrew Ebierelayefa, lost to Omar Mohamed of Egypt by pinfall in the 74kg.
In the 65kg division, Stephen Akintewe lost out to another Egyptian, Shehabeldin Emam, to settle for silver.
Dideikemei Erefagha beat Elie Djekoundakom of Chad 12-0 in the 70kg, as Solomon Ulabo defeated Madagascar’s Totiana Razafinjato 6-0 by pinfall in the 79kg to win bronze medals.
Also, in the 61kg, Saviour Egoli beat Mustapha Batinini of Tunisia by a technical 5-5 scoreline to secure a bronze medal.
The men finished the tournament as the third-best overall, earning a podium finish.
The team, which comprised 10 female wrestlers and eight male wrestlers, competed for honours in 18 events.
The championship, which started on April 27, is expected to end on Saturday( today)in Alexandria, Egypt.
