The Nigerian Army has commenced construction of an additional training depot at Amasiri-Edda, Afikpo and Edda Local Government Areas of Ebonyi State, as part of efforts to expand training capacity and strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture.

This is contained in a statement by the acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Appolonia Anele, on Wednesday in Abuja.

Ms Anele stated that the groundbreaking was performed by the Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, who thanked President Bola Tinubu and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, for approving the facility.

Mr Nwifuru said the depot would boost youth enlistment from Ebonyi State and the South-East, while deepening the Nigerian Army’s contribution to peace, security and socio-economic development in the state.

The representive of the COAS, the General Officer Commanding 82 Division Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Oluremi Fadairo, said the project aligns with the President’s vision of equitable distribution of military infrastructure and inclusive national representation within the Armed Forces.

Mr Fadairo urged youths in the South-East to seize the opportunity by filling their recruitment quota, noting that the new depot would strengthen civil-military relations and serve as a catalyst for stability and development in the region.

The ceremony featured the formal handover of land documents by the governor to the Nigerian Army, received by the Chief of Training (Army), followed by the symbolic laying of foundation blocks.

With the establishment of the Amasiri-Edda depot, the number of Nigerian Army training depots has increased to three, alongside Depot Nigerian Army Zaria (established in 1924) and Depot Nigerian Army Osogbo, established in 2025.

This underscored the army’s commitment to meeting evolving manpower and security demands nationwide.
