Nigerian Army general leading Port Harcourt Division dies from coronavirus
Olubunmi Irefin, the general officer commanding of Nigerian Army 6 Division in Port Harcourt, has died, military sources told Peoples Gazette.
Mr. Irefin died on Wednesday night after testing positive for coronavirus, military sources said. He was in Abuja this week to attend the Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference of military officers in Abuja.
The Nigerian Army has yet to issue a statement about the development. A military spokesman did not immediately return a request seeking comments.
Mr. Irefin, from Kogi, was posted to the 6 Division Headquarters in Port Harcourt earlier this year. It was unclear where he contracted the coronavirus, which has killed over 1.5 million people out of more than 60 million infections since it first broke out in China in November 2019.
